Our initiatives, our shared purpose

01 / Connection & participation

Across Hwange, a place for women to come together

Phakama’s annual meetings across Hwange district bring women together around a shared purpose: supporting one another and strengthening community life.

A community organisation begins with people making time for each other. Through its annual meetings across Hwange district, Phakama brings that idea to life, creating a meeting point for women and the concerns that matter to them.

These gatherings are part of a wider commitment to women’s wellbeing. Health, belonging and participation are connected: women deserve a place in the conversations that shape their communities, as well as support in their everyday lives.

For Phakama, coming together is a foundation for community action. The same spirit connects the organisation’s meetings, clean-up campaigns and awareness work across the district.

02 / Community care

Caring for the places we share

Through clean-up campaigns, Phakama brings women’s wellbeing into the shared spaces where community life happens.

Looking after a community also means looking after its surroundings. Phakama’s clean-up campaigns are a practical expression of that care, bringing environmental responsibility into the organisation’s work for women’s wellbeing.

The story is about more than tidying a space. Taking part in a shared task gives community members a way to contribute, work alongside one another and show that local action matters.

Clean-up campaigns sit alongside annual meetings and awareness activities as part of Phakama’s community-based approach. Each offers a different way to get involved, with the same purpose of caring for women and the communities they belong to.

03 / Awareness & wellbeing

Keeping the conversation about women’s wellbeing open

Phakama’s awareness campaigns keep women’s wellbeing in the community conversation, with breast cancer awareness remaining an important part of the work.

Awareness is part of how Phakama brings women together. Its campaigns create a focus for conversations about wellbeing and make room for health within a broader community mission.

Breast cancer awareness continues to have a dedicated place in that mission. Alongside this work, the organisation’s wider message recognises women as neighbours, participants and contributors to community life.

Annual meetings, community care and awareness campaigns belong to the same story: women connecting around issues that matter. Phakama welcomes conversations with people who want to support or participate in that work.
